Water rate adjustments effective July 1
As part of the Town Council approved plan to annually raise water rates over three years beginning in 2008 and ending in July 2010, water rates will increase on July 1. The rate increase will consist of a 7.5 percent adjustment to the current rates.
“An increase in rates helps the Town to maintain the quality service that has been provided in the past and to keep up with the mandates that state and federal government agencies are continually requiring of water utilities,” said Utilities Director Paul Gardner.
The rate plan approved two years ago by the Town Council included three incremental increases over three years, beginning in July 2008 and increasing in July each year through July 2010. This rate increase represents the last of these three rate increases. The rate adjustments will help to finance the debt incurred to acquire the former Queen Creek Water Company as well as to pay for system improvement costs. The adjustments are necessary to generate sufficient revenue for the Town to make its debt service payments. Additionally, these rate changes help the Town maintain quality service and keep up with the mandates that state and federal government agencies continually require of water utilities.
The Town's three-tier rate structure rewards water conservation, meaning
customers who use less water will also pay less. Reducing water use in
your daily activities inside and outside your home can help conserve
water and save you money.
