How to Run for Office

You are a potential leader in Queen Creek and are encouraged to run for Mayor or for a seat on the Town Council. The first step is to pick up a candidate election packet from the Town Clerk’s Office at Town Hall, 22350 S. Ellsworth Road. Packets are available in November for the March primary election and must be completed and returned to the Town Clerk’s Office. For more information about the candidate election packet, contact the Town Clerk's Office at 480-358-3211 or 480-358-3210.

The Town of Queen Creek candidate election packet includes:

  • Candidate’s Nomination Paper/Affidavit of Qualifications/Campaign Finance Law Statement
  • Financial Disclosure Statement
  • Nomination Petitions
  • Statement of Organization for a Campaign Committee
  • Title 16, Arizona Revised Statutes (regarding elections and electors)
  • Campaign finance forms and instructions
  • Limits on campaign contributions

Local Elected Officials
The Mayor and six Town Council members are the only local elected officials. Any Town resident who has lived within the Town limits for one year preceding the election may run for these positions. Primary elections are held the second Tuesday in March in even-numbered years. General elections are held the third Tuesday in May in even-numbered years.

Terms of Office
Town Council members serve staggered four-year terms.  The Mayor is elected every four years for a four-year term commencing with the year 2010. (Ordinance 411-07 and voter approved March 11, 2008). Every two years, three council seats are up for election.  There are no term limits in Queen Creek, so there is no limit to the number of times an incumbent may run for reelection.
