Queen Creek’s General Plan Update Provides a Roadmap for the Future

The Queen Creek General Plan serves as the Town's roadmap to guide development, manage growth, and conserve natural resources. State law requires every jurisdiction in Arizona What is a GP - 2018with more than 2,500 residents to have a General Plan, and to update the plan every 10 years.

The Town's current General Plan was approved by Queen Creek voters in 2008. Over the past year, Town staff has been gathering community input and integrating the Town’s existing plans, including the Transportation Master Plan, the South Specific Area Plan, the North Specific Area Plan, the Economic Development Strategic Plan, and the Parks and Recreation Master Plan, among others.

The plan identifies goals and actions that guide decisions to ensure consistency with the Town’s vision. The goals are categorized into the following 10 elements:

  • Land Use
  • Housing
  • Growth Area
  • Circulation
  • Recreation, Parks & Open Space
  • Environmental
  • Water Resources
  • Economic Development
  • Cost of Development
  • Public Safety

“The General Plan really does shape the future of our community,” stated Queen Creek Mayor Gail Barney. “We appreciate all of the valuable input we received throughout the process, and encourage residents to familiarize themselves with the updated plan so they can make an educated decision when their ballot arrives in the mail.”

In order for the General Plan Update to be implemented, it must be approved by Queen Creek voters during a special election in May 2018. The special election will be an all-mail election. All ballots must be received by May 15.
