Queen Creek's Economic Development Team Earns Deal of the Year Award
The addition of Old Ellsworth Brewing Company in Queen Creek sparked the transformation taking place in the downtown area. The delicious food, cozy atmosphere and beer made in-house with ingredients from local farmers make this new hometown favorite a hot spot.
It was the diligent efforts of the Town’s Economic Development Department that brought Queen Creek its first independent craft brewery. In October, the Arizona Association for Economic Development (AAED) recognized the Town of Queen Creek’s Economic Development Department with a Golden Prospector Award for Economic Development Deal of the Year (pop. 25,000 – 75,000). The Deal of the Year Award recognizes the locations and economic development departments that attracted or developed the highest-impact projects.
“It’s exciting to be part of a growing community,” said Economic Development Director Doreen Cott. “Businesses are attracted to the strong demographics and the potential for their own business to grow along with the Town.”
The search to bring an independent brewery to Queen Creek began with an ad declaring Queen Creek as an “untapped” market in the Arizona Crafter Brewers Guild magazine, Choose AZ Brews. The ad generated several leads, and a duo of brewers recognized the growing population of Queen Creek as an opportunity.
Town staff worked with the brewers to locate the right space in Queen Creek's downtown. Old Ellsworth Brewing Company successfully applied for the Town’s Façade Improvement Program, providing them the ability to enhance their monument signage, which has become a landmark in Town Center, and create outdoor dining space.
As a small-scale manufacturing entrepreneur, Old Ellsworth Brewing Company has created 50 jobs since its opening in July 2017. It enhanced the Town’s dining scene, which is imperative for a community that spends more on dining than the national average. Embracing the Town’s agritainment culture, Old Ellsworth Brewing Company has partnered with the Queen Creek Olive Mill to produce a collaborative beer. Even its name, Old Ellsworth Brewing Company, shows the brewery’s commitment to the Queen Creek community.
By leasing and investing in the Town’s downtown area, the success of Old Ellsworth Brewing Company sends a message to developers that Queen Creek is in demand. The Town has recently announced Ryu Sushi & Teppanyaki will be occupying space across the street from Old Ellsworth Brewing Company in early 2019, giving Queen Creek residents another option for a new and unique dining experience.
