Queen Creek Town Council Approves 2019/20 Budget

Post Date:05/17/2019 1:30 pm

At the May 15 meeting, the Queen Creek Town Council approved a budget of $452.7 million for the 2019/20 fiscal year, which begins on QC_Budget_Infographic_5-17-2019_Page_1July 1, 2019. The approved budget prioritizes infrastructure, with 53% of the budget dedicated to new and improved roads ($122.2 million), water ($62 million), wastewater ($38.6 million), public safety ($11 million), and parks and trails ($6.1 million).

“Establishing a fiscally responsible budget that addresses the needs of our growing community is one of the most important roles we have as a Council,” stated Vice Mayor Robin Benning. “I have had the privilege of serving on the budget committee for several years and I can attest the tough decisions that must be made to serve this wonderful community while being mindful of tax dollars. This budget reflects our strategic priorities and highlights the importance of having superior infrastructure -  we are committed to providing safe and reliable water, efficient waste water, improved roads, and quality parks and trails.”

In addition to $240 million dedicated to infrastructure improvements, the budget also includes funding to expand the Town’s long-term water strategy; $50 million to acquire water rights and $50 million to refinance a water related loan.

The budget also includes expense reductions and savings where it is appropriate to assist with long-term sustainability for the Town and residents.

  • The Town Council implemented policy changes to reduce property taxes related to CAGRD for eligible water customers, saving $1.1 million
  • The Council is also working on a reduction in wastewater charges
